From Mobitouch cube
Since the Firmware version 3024, all the Mobitouch CUBE units offer the Wi-Fi support for iPhones.
To use WLP CUBE units with Wi-Fi support, you need to provide a Wi-Fi router and configure properly the network settings of the router itself and of the WLP CUBE unit, with the Network Configuration Tool.
1- Configuring the Wi-Fi router
Connection and login
The first thing to do is to configure the Wi-Fi router properly.
The router must allow to deactivate its own DHCP service, this must be done to avoid IP addresses collisions when installing the Wi-Fi router into an existing network.
It is important to set the inner network of the Wi-Fi router on a IP class different from the external one.
Turn on the Wi-Fi router.
Connect your PC to one of the ports of the local network of the router (one of the LAN ports in the picture below)
Now connect to the Administration page of the Wi-Fi router, by opening a page of your favourite browser and typing for example http://192.168.1.1.
(Please check which is the correct network address, according to the instructions provided with the Wi-Fi Router)
Log in with the credentials for administration, provided with your Wi-Fi Router.
Settings of network properties
You must now deactivate the DHCP function of your Wi-Fi router, and assign it a fixed IP address in the local network, for example 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 (according to the basic settings of your Wi-Fi router)
IMPORTANT: the internal IP address must be of a different IP class of the external network, in order to avoid conflicts.
You can detect the IP class of your external network by connecting you PC to a LAN cable of your main router, then from the command prompt type ipconfig on Windows systems, or ifconfig on Linux based systems.
TAKE NOTE of the internal IP address that you gave to the Wi-Fi router, since you will need it later.
Now remember to save all the settings and you can exit the administration tool of your Wi-Fi router.
2- Configuring the WLP CUBE unit
To configure the WLP CUBE unit, you need to set it up properly with the Network Configuration Tool, version 1.5.
- Start the Network Tool (you have to download and install it on your PC)
- Select the WLP CUBE where you want to activate the Wi-Fi service for iPhones, from the list, and click on the "Settings" button.
- Select the "Ethernet" interface and click on the "Edit" button.
- Now select "Static" as Network interface boot mode.
- Change the IP address, and put a new one compatible with the IP class that you previously set for the INTERNAL network of your Wi-Fi router. For example, if you previously set 192.168.1.1 for the router, you can set 192.168.1.2 for the WLP CUBE unit.
- Click the "Restore default DNS" button, that will set a proper configuration.
- Insert the IP address of the internal address of the Wi-Fi router (you wrote it down before) into the "Gateway IP address" field.
- Check the flag "Enable Wi-Fi Server".
- Set the range of valid IP addresses for the Wi-Fi Server DHCP, you can start from 3 (one more than the one you set for the WLP CUBE unit) until 49 for example. DO NOT use addresses that you already used, like 1 or 2 in this example.
The picture below shows a proper configuration of the WLP CUBE unit.
- Click "OK" twice, to save the settings on the unit, to use it with Wi-Fi network.
IMPORTANT: since you have configured the WLP CUBE unit with a static IP, different from the one of your network, the unit will DISAPPEAR from the list of network tool.
DON'T WORRY, the WLP CUBE unit is now configured to work with the Wi-Fi router.
To reset the network configuration, you have to keep the "Reset" button of the WLP CUBE unit pressed for about 10 seconds. The unit will return then to its basic network configuration, with DHCP.
3- Connecting the cables
Now both the parts of the system are configured.
Connect the WLP CUBE unit to one of the LAN ports of the Wi-Fi router, and the network cable of your internet connection to the WAN port of the Wi-Fi router.
This way your WLP CUBE unit will be able to work with Wi-Fi, and also it will be able to reach the internet to update itself as always.
Reboot the Wi-Fi router, to be sure that all the configuration is working.
4- Connect to the Wi-Fi network and enjoy your contents
To connect to the Wi-Fi network with your iPhone, you have to select the network among the available ones.
Then, once connected, open your browser and input your favourite URL.
Since you are connected to a private Wi-Fi network, with the iPhone you will see a landing page, containing all the content you previously set in the CMS to run with iPhone.
You can save picture on you iPhone, or you can listen to offer music files, or watch embedded video.
Because of Apple policy, the iPhone is not allowed to download music or video files, nevertheless, you can listen to music or watch your videos for free, until you are in the coverage range of the Wi-Fi network running on you WLP CUBE.
5- Notes
- The name of the Wi-Fi network you are going to connect to with your iPhone cannot be changed dinamically from the CMS. You can change it only through the administration tool of your Wi-Fi router, and once set it will be fixed, until you set it once again.
- On the CMS, all the contents following the policy "Simple" will also be available for iPhone. If you need to set files for iPhone only, select the policy "Device Identification", then select the Apple - iPhone among the listed models.
