- By default the WLP-500 comes with a DHCP client so it should be able to access the internet without any problem.
If your network doesn't feature DHCP or if you need to use a GPRS modem for remote connectivity you should use the network configuration tool.
It is a Java application compatible with Windows, Linux and Mac and let you automatically find all the WLP-500 in your LAN and change their network configuration.
First of all you have to connect the WLP-500 directly to your PC using the cross-cable that you find in the box then, you have to change your PC ip-address to let your PC communicate with the WLP-C (see how to change PC ip-address on Windows Vista and on Windows XP ).
The WLP-500 came out with standard ip-address 192.168.0.50 so you have to configure your PC to have an ip-address of the same range, 192.168.0.1 would be perfect.
When you can see the WLP-500 listed into the Network configuration tool you can edit its network configuration.
Find out if your network has DHCP:
1. open Windows Start menu.
2. click on Run, type cmd, click OK
3. in the new window type: ipconfig /all and press Enter
4. Dhcp Enabled: Yes it has DHCP. No means your IP address is static.
5. to exit type: exit and press Enter]]
Firewall
How it works:
- the WLP-500 communicate with the central server through http or https calls (configurable trough the network configuration tool). Therefore it is required that from within your net the WLP-500 is capable of exiting on ports 80 (if http is set) or 443 (if https is set).
- if for diagnostic reasons it is required to be connected remotely to the node, it is required to set "reverse shell enabled" in the advanced parameters of the node; this enables the node to connect to one of our servers through an encrypted channel (ssh - port 22 on our server - not on the WLP-500) and keeps connected, our server remaps this channel on another port and we're able to log in to the WLP-500 using the same encrypted channel.
- if you set a DHCP configuration the WLP-500 uses exiting 53 port to retrieve the DNS.
- the WLP-500 uses also the exiting 123 port to retrieve the time from a NTP server.
Therefore it is not required that inbound ports are open in your firewall, we just need to be able to go out on ports 80, 443, 22, 53 and 123 of our servers.

The application is easy to use, however we have provided some screencasts below to show how it works.
