FAQFrom Mobitouch cubeBluetooth technologyWhat is the Bluetooth address of a mobile device? The Bluetooth Address (bd_addr) of a mobile device is a unique identifier that comes in the form of a 48 bit number (usually represented with a 12-digit hexadecimal string) There are many ways to retrieve the Bluetooth address of a mobile device:
What are the unsupported mobile devices?Mobitouch is able to deliver multimedia contents to every mobile device (cellular, smartphone, PDA, etc.) that supports Bluetooth technology and implements OBEX Push profile/service. Most mobile devices with Bluetooth technology supports OBEX Push profile, however there are few exceptions:
other mobile phones need specific operations to be performed in order to activate the OBEX PUSH profile:
to receive content trough Bluetooth with a blackberry a user is required to open the Media Gallery folder and select the menu option "Receive Using Bluetooth", just the activation of the bluetooth is not enough to open the OBEX channel. Can I change the text shown in the notification message? The notification message text, shown to the user when he receives a connection request from the WLP, is strictly dependent on the mobile phone manufacturer and model. This notification message is usually in the form “Do you want to receive a message from <name>?”, where <name> is configurable through Mobitouch cube CMS ( Bluetooth sender name parameter). There is no way to change all the text shown in the notification message, except the <name> field, because this message is generated by the mobile phone itself. Moreover, since it depends on the mobile phone manufacturer and model, it could be different between two or more devices. Can I change the ringtone assigned to the notification message? No. The ringtone (or beep) assigned to the notification message is strictly dependent on the mobile phone manufacturer and model. In particular, some mobile phones don't play any sound at all, when they show the notification message, while other phones (for example, some Nokia models) just play a low beep. There is no way to change the ringtone (or beep) assigned to the notification message, from the Mobitouch perspective. This means that there is no way to remotly change the behavior of the mobile phone, through the Wireless Local Provider. However, there are some mobile phones that allow to change the ringtone, assigned to the notification message, from their settings menu.
Can I avoid the notification message?A mobile device, usually, requests the user to accept a notification message (something like “Receive a Bluetooth message from <your name> ?”), before to receive the contents via Bluetooth. The behavior of this notification message is strictly dependent on the manufacturer of the mobile device and cannot be avoided or excluded in any way. There are few mobile phones that does not show the notification message at all, while they just automatically download the contents via Bluetooth. The following list shows these devices:
What is the maximum range of the transmittersAll our systems feature CLASS 1 radios. Radio power is measured in mW of output signal. CLASS 1 Power is usually referred as being 100m range (thus some manufacturers declare this to be 150/200 m). It is important to understand that this number is a nominal value and is obtained as following:
A lot of things can affect these values: walls, metal and water can shield the signal a lot. Also human beings (which are made 70% of water) shield the signal very effectively. So figures vary due to the environment in which the system is installed. Another thing to take into consideration is that Today most Bluetooth systems found mobile phones are CLASS 2 (usually referred as 10m range). This is because manufacturer need to save battery duration. When coupling a CLASS 1 device (WLP) with a CLASS 2 device (Mobile phone) an effective range of 30-35 meters in open field is obtained. In many situations this range is even too much because there are far too many people in the volume of a sphere of 30m radius and Proximity Marketing Campaigns don't work well. Cube SpecificsCan the cube run simultaneous campaigns on the same time period for a long period of time? If so how many campaigns could the cube run simultaneouslyMobitouch CUBE sets no limit on how many campaign can run on a node and their effective duration. Please note, however, that campaigns should not overlap (I.E. time schedules for different campaigns should not overlap) since in this case only the first defined campaign (the one with the lowes campaign ID) will be executed by the WLP |
